 Trying on New York Living For Size, January 11, 2017
This book Southern Comfort by Tinsley Mortimer touches on the idea of Minty Davenport creating a new life for herself in New York. She had been raised up in South Carolina and was the union of a father known to be a womanizer and heartbreaker (to put it nicely) and mother who very much adored Minty Davenport. What is interesting about the whole premise of the book is that there are scenes in this book set in New York and in real-life the author (Tinsley Mortimer) is going to be in The Real Housewives of New York (a life imitates art type of scenario).

A Colorful and Exciting Lifestyle, January 11, 2017
This book of Can I Go Now?: The Life of Sue Mengers, Hollywood’s First Superagent by Brian Kellow touches on both Menger’s early life and her later life. Some of the multiple tidbits in this book; pictures starting after page 118 of Sue Mengers as a child in Hamburg Germany, pictures of Sue Menger with her mother Ruth Mengers, her cousin Leo Senders engagement party photo, a photo of Sue Mengers with her friend Boaty Baotwright etc. There is also a mention that Sue Menger worked to help Paula Prentiss obtain a role in the 1973 version of the movie Westworld (page 122).

Yes, It is a Fiction Story Yet It Touches on a Topic Worthy of More Frequent Discussion, January 11, 2017
I have strong faith that my husband and I are going to stay married for the rest of our current lifetimes regardless of who makes more money than the other. However, I admit that this kindlebook of Hedge Fund Wives by Tatiana Boncompagni caught my attention because it deals with the controversial topic of a man leaving a woman for a wealthier woman. I say this because it is common for a woman to always be questioned andor scrutinized (especially if she is in the middle or more lower financial classes) if she is with someone for purely financial reasons, but rarely is the issue raised for the other way around. The author pokes fun at such a less frequently discussed topic in a dramatic way. The main character of the story, Marcy is both married and working to prove herself to the other women she is surrounded by who are also living what many would term a financially successful life. Marcy sets aside her own career dreams for her husband in order to preserve her marriage yet discovers the hard way that true love should not require having to give up where you want to live and/or the career you want to work in for a lasting marriage. Marcy’s ambition and determination are evident. I like that Marcy did her best to pick herself back up in life and refocused on her career ambitions which paved the way for her to rebuild her life. However, I do not enjoy playing devil’s advocate yet there is one thing I must speak up about. There is a part in the story where Marcy’s husband says that she needs to have a stronger social support network before having children. The writing was done in a way to seem like this good advice was harsh advice. However, I am fortunate to have been adopted into a large family and had an adoptive mother who was at least self-confident in her physical appearance (she was a slender American born Caucasian woman who at times dyed her hair blonde). She even loved me and my younger siblings as her own children and navigated the identity of being an adoptive mother of a trans-racial family, especially during the 1990’s when there were not that many families like us in the neighborhoods that we lived in. Additionally, my adoptive mother did not have a strong and vast social support network to tap into for help in raising at least six or more children at a time, which created some hardship on her after her and my adoptive father divorced (as a result, I saw both the good and bad on what can happen to a mother even if they do their best to raise multiple children without a strong and/or vast social support network). Marcy had much to overcome when her husband made a new life with a wealthier woman. I have nothing against parents or kids. However, the advice for a woman to try to build a stronger social support system before taking the plunge to have children (if possible) is well-intentioned advice that needs to be more frequently considered (especially when it is common knowledge for even middle class or poor women to be shamed for not having kids without looking at their social andor family support networks). However, aside from that caveat, Hedge Fund Wives by Tatiana Boncompagni is a worthwhile purchase.

I Know I’m Outside The Intended Audience Yet, January 11, 2017
I have to admit that I only found out about this kindlebook of Adventures in Business: Twelve Classic Tales From The World of Wall Street by John Brooks after I had seen it featured on a CNBC website as a book recommendation (from Bill Gates and Warren Buffett). I’m striving to think outside the box when it comes to my own writing. One of the multiple examples in the book; a project involving gaining more exposure (publicity)by someone named C Gayle Warnock (who did work for county fairs) for the Edsel car.

Tricky Days in May
I admit that I have to credit one of the most recent Washingtonian
magazine issues (January 2017)for introducing me to the Seven Days In May film
via mentioning the film in one of their articles. Seven Days in May stars Kirk
Douglas as Colonel Jiggs Casey. Colonel Jiggs Casey takes great pride and
seriousness in his job. He even goes as far as to risk his own professional
livelihood by telling President Jordan Lyman what he thinks is about to happen.
This is serious because what Casey tells Lyman involves another supervisor
General James Mattoon Scott (Burt Lancaster). This is significant because even in
real-life telling a supervisor what you sense andor know can cause you great
risk to your own job because there is no rule prohibiting them from telling
another supervisor what you told them even with good intentions. President
Lyman courteously understands the good intent behind what Colonel Jiggs Casey is
doing and is careful to avoid telling Scott what Casey told him in confidence.
Meanwhile, Casey also has the challenging task of gathering information from
Eleanor Holbrook (Ava Gardner) who had been deeply in love with General James
Mattoon Scott.

The Thrill of Getting Carried Away By Love, January 11, 2017
Anchors Away is a dynamic film to watch throughout because of the interconnection of movie scenes and the music to paint an image of what is happening throughout a major love story. Gene Kelly features as a very self-confident navy sailor named Joseph Brady who is determined to enjoy his four days in Hollywood, California while also enjoying romantic companionship. Brady unexpectedly becomes sort of a mentor to Clarence Doolittle (Frank Sinatra) who wants help with finding love as well. Both men unexpectedly cross paths with a woman named Susan Abbott (Kathryn Grayson) after they are forced by the police to bring her nephew to her house. Eventually, what is supposed to be four days of leisure for both men turns into something different when Joseph influences Clarence to create an imaginative story to Susan that they could help get her a meeting with pianist/conductor Jose Iturbi.

Well Made Film, January 11, 2017
I preface this review by admitting that I’m sharing this review as an amateur reviewer who considers it a compliment to have been sometimes thought of by others for a paid writer/paid reviewer. Advise and Consent is another film that I discovered from seeing it referenced in a recent Washingtonian magazine article (January 2017). The film opens with showing kind of a day in the life of vibe situation through showing scenes involving dialogue of the various characters. The main event deals with the confirmation of Robert A Leffingwell (Henry Fonda)as Secretary of State. The confirmation process becomes so serious to the point where one of the interrogators, Senator Brigham Anderson of Utah (Don Murray) faces the reality of his controversial past (for that timeframe) being publicly revealed. To complicate matters further, the anonymous person involved decides to go after his wife Ellen Anderson (Inga Swenson) via strange phone calls to try to stop Anderson from going forward with the confirmation process.

Unintended Dealings, January 11, 2017
Legal Eagles follows the unexpected case of Tom Logan (Robert Redford) being asked by Laura Kelly (Debra Winger) to help Chelsea Deardon (Darryl Hannah). The situation is further complicated by the fact that Logan learns how Chelsea Deardon came to be brought to court. Laura Kelly obtains a significant amount of information related to Chelsea Deardon’s case from Joe Brock (Brian Dennehy). Things become more dramatic when a confrontation occurs between Chelsea Deardon and Victor Taft (Terrence Stamp). There is even music from Rod Stewart involved in this film.

Much Better Than I Thought, January 11, 2017
I confess that I originally decided to check out this Suicide Squad film due to previously being familiar and liking some of the music of Thirty Seconds To Mars (Jared Leto as the Joker), seeing Margot Robbie’s (Harley Quinn)excellent performance in the Wolf of Wall Street back in 2013, and being aware of my husband’s interest in the Men In Black films starring Will Smith (Deadshot). Of course, there are other actors/actresses who put out good performances in this movie as well (Cara Delevingne as June Moone/Enchantress, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, etc. and more actors featured in this film). The film shows how each character came to be who they were and there are even cameo appearances from some of the actors in the film(Common, Ben Affleck etc.) The film shows some of the characters achille heels such as how Will Smith’s Deadshot character was eventually captured and the pivotal moment when the Joker and Harley Quinn were captured. There are some love stories and an interesting mix of music thrown in for good measure (Heathens by Twenty One Pilots, a song by K7, Bohemian Rhapsody, etc.)

More Like Serious Outcomes For Deals Made, January 11, 2017
This Lions For Lambs film carefully deals with the what if outcomes of some of the lives affected by the military conflicts in Afghanistan. The film also shows various interconnecting plots within the film; The characters of Professor Stephen Malley talking to one of his students Todd Hayes (Andrew Garfield) of the multiple doors open for him professionally with what he has been given. Senator Jasper Irving (Tom Cruise) explains to Janine Roth (Meryl Streep) his plans and strategies for dealing with the Afghanistan military situation. Janine Roth explains to her colleague (Kevin Dunn) what she thinks has begun with the news and details she has been given about Afghanistan. There is a strong and enduring friendship between the characters of Ernest Rodriguez (Michael Pena) and Arian Finch (Derek Luke) that endures both through college and when they go off to Afghanistan together. The film also shows the character of a military officer (Peter Berg) being faced with difficult decisions involving major scenarios.

Dazzling Trance Collection, January 11, 2017
This music collection of I Am Hardwell by Hardwell captures a strong selection of trance and club mix. The collection starts off boldly with Apollo (Acoustic version) by Amba Shepard and Orchestra intro version of Spaceman. This music mix is also perfect to listen to if you have previously enjoyed music by such artists as Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren etc.

An Exquisite Blend of Rock and Hints of Electronic Music, January 11, 2017
This music of A Beautiful Lie by Thirty Seconds To Mars is the right blend of rock music with hints of electronic music. I normally prefer happier love songs, yet I admit that the superb vocals and intense music bring alive even such serious songs as The Kill, The Story,From Yesterday. I have fortunately had a chance to previously enjoy the music from Thirty Seconds To Mars from their This is War collection, Love, Lust, Faith, and Dreams music collection, and a concert from April 2011 that gave me the privilege of enjoying their music live. However, a Beautiful Lie is still good to listen to even if you are a newbie to listening to their music.

Simmering Cool-Off Type of Music, January 11, 2017
The music in the Tango Chill Sessions Vol. 2 from various artists is both soothing and relaxing. Music from this set actually helped to calm my soul and put me to sleep with ease when I needed help going back to sleep. What I enjoy is that this music is a combination of lounge and a taking it easy type of vibe that is perfect for also just relaxing in one’s living space (apartment, home etc.).

The Influence of Condoleeza’s Rice’s Early Life, January 11, 2017
This kindlebook of Condoleeza Rice: A Memoir Of My Extraordinary, Ordinary Family and Me by Condoleeza Rice touches on various facets of her family life and how they positively influenced other areas of her life. Rice shares how both of her parents met each other. Additionally, I like the candid details included on how certain moves across schools andor states affected each of them (her parents, herself etc.). A person does get the sense that Condoleeza greatly loves both of her parents from this kindlebook and she kindly acknowledges the blessing of having the love of both of her parents. Condoleeza Rice also indirectly shares her love of learning throughout this book and indirectly makes the connection from how her family life influenced her ambition. Rice also shares how the hardships of what she had survived and lived through propelled her determination (such as how a certain tragic event involving her dad’s church affected not just her dad, but her own feelings about what was happening at the time, and she shares details in a way that a person can guess how others around her must have also felt). There is so much more in this kindlebook that makes it a meaningful read.

Higher Self Ideas, January 11, 2017
This kindlebook of The Manifestation Revelation: How To Align With Your Higher Self To Manifest Balance, Happiness, and Prosperity by Forbes Robbins Blair caught my attention due to one of my own personal goals to strengthen my connection to my higher self when it comes to achieving some of my personal goals. Additionally, I’m only speaking for myself when it comes to writing this, but I have a feeling that I’m going to have to reincarnate back on earth in a future lifetime whether I want to or not (I didn’t truly believe this may happen to me until less than a year go but that is something for another post). What this book has to do with my newfound belief is that learning the ideas in this book for me to connect deeper with my higher self is a way for me to improve my spiritual evolution for both this lifetime and my future lifetimes beyond this current one. With that out of the way, this kindlebook includes helpful details such as a list of resources to look at for those who want to know more about their higher self, asking the higher self for verification, the how and why to focus on what a person believes is one attainable goal at first when involving the higher self, and more information.
